Ponca City is taking applications for a Band Director.   Ponca City has constructed a multi-million dollar concert hall, considered one of the finest music facilities in the state for HS music.   Experience as a lead director preferred.

This position will direct and coordinate Ponca City Bands from 6th-12th grade.  

 

 

 

Reports to:                   Building Principal

 

Supervises:                  Assigned Assistant Directors, Paraprofessionals, Volunteers, and Students

 

Qualifications:            Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in Assigned Subject(s)

                                      

Job Goal:                      Provide exceptional instruction to assigned students while working within the established policies and procedures of the district.

 

Employment Terms: 10 month Contract

Generally - 7 Hour 20 Minute Day, Exclusive of a (30) Minute Duty Free Lunch

 

FLSA Classification:  Exempt

Evaluation:                  Annually Pursuant to Oklahoma Law

   Regular Requirements: Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the 

   neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead,

   to grasp and/or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to

   students;  lift/move up to 15 pounds

 

   Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 25 pounds,

 ability to administer CPR

 

Visual Requirements:  Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus

 

Hearing/Speaking Requirements:  Adequate to exchange information

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. Establishes and implements classroom procedures designed to maximize student learning in an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  2. Prepares detailed weekly written lesson plans consistent with Oklahoma Academic Standards specifically designed to teach skills on course curriculum maps and timely submits plans to assigned principal.
  3. Complies with and fully implements all Individualized Education Plans and behavioral or academic interventions.
  4. Maintains a neat and orderly classroom, including the physical arrangement of the room, student records and materials.
  5. Handles routine classroom discipline fairly.
  6. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  7. Attends and participates in all required meetings and conferences, including professional development and planning meetings and continually strives for professional growth.
  8. Maintains complete and accurate student records, including attendance, performance and discipline records.
  9. Provides professional and regular feedback to students and parents, ensuring compliance with all laws and district policies and procedures and communicates regularly with parents by means of notes, phone calls, conferences, and etc.
  10. Utilizes professional behavior in all school related interactions.
  11. Complies with all federal, state and local laws and board policies and procedures.
  12. Uses formative and summative data to guide instruction, plans for student interventions, and communicates progress to parents.
  13. Provides individualized and small group instruction, adapting the curriculum as needed.
  14. Provides a technology enriched environment to support student learning.
  15. Maintains availability to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  16. Plans and coordinates the work of teacher assistants, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
  17. Collaborates with other professionals to enrich and improve students’ academic progress.
  18. Performs all other tasks as supervisor may assign.

Extra Duty Stipend 6000-14,400

 

SUMMARY:

Provide all the high school students with the opportunity to learn and enjoy music experiences as a performer and listener.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)

Select music

Schedule and supervise out of school rehearsals

Organize and prepare for competitions and performances

Work with the community and provide entertainment as needed Organize fundraisers

Maintain budget

Serve as advisor on specifications for music equipment

Serve as a liaison to elementary and middle level sites

Collect and receipt all high school band department money.

Follow all school board and district policies and procedures when accompanying students on activities.

Maintain equipment and verifications.

Audition students and place students in appropriate band ensemble based on their performance.

Communicate with students, parents and building staff on activities taking place in the band department well in advance of activity.

Accompany high school band organization on extracurricular activities.
