Supervises: N/A
Qualifications: 48 Hours College Credit OR Passing Score on Paraprofessional Test
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Job Goal: Provides care for infants and toddlers to assist the student in unique educational goals.
Employment Terms: 9 Month Contract, 6.75 Hours per Day, Exclusive of a Lunch
FLSA Classification: Nonexempt
Evaluation: Annually by Director of Alternative & On-Line

Regular Requirements: Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder and horizontally; repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to students; lift/move up to 15 pounds
Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 50 pounds
Visual Requirements: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus
Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Note: Takes direction from the Supervisor and the Day Care Lead for the following duties:
- Cares for infants and toddlers including: changing diapers, feeding, nurturing, bathing, etc. as necessary and age appropriate.
- Hygiene: sterilize all surfaces, bottles, feeding utensils and surfaces, toys, bedding, diaper changing surfaces, sink (when bathing is necessary), toys, teething rings, laundering of bedding, burp rags, soiled clothing, etc. as each room requires.
- Nurturing: developmentally appropriate activities to promote healthy progress in speech, motor skills, social skills, and school readiness including: “tummy time;” crawling; walking; self-feeding and calming activities; letter, color, sound, pattern recognition; pre-writing activities, hand-eye coordination activities; fine and gross motor activities; musical awareness activities; and others as needed.
- Record keeping and communication: daily recording and communication to mothers of children who are present/absent including: time of arrival, feeding times, amounts, and content of meals; toilet issues; changing of diapers/clothing; general observations of health, mood, teething issues, parasites, injuries, bruising, bites, and other health concerns; communicating with mothers concerning adequate supplies of diapers, formula, snacks, clothing, and time of departure.
- Safety: Maintaining a safe environment for the workers, mothers, and children by keeping outside doors secure, following all safety procedures and drills, keeping all potentially harmful substances and equipment out of reach of the children, keeping floor clear of potential tripping hazards for workers.
- To ensure continuity of services, remote work may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for remote work will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for remote work will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.
