Employment Terms: 12 Months, 8 hours per day 7:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M., exclusive of a lunch Occasionally, special arrangements may be made with the supervisor if the situation warrants. Supervisor approval is required if the contract day varies. The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job. Occasional Requirements : The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as a toolbox and equipment. Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lbs. such as piping and valves. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables scaffolds, and air compressors or other various items. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and will occasionally work outdoors. The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment. The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays and non-household dust. The employee may come in contact with blood and other infectious materials. T he employee will occasionally work in unsanitary conditions such as sewers. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints. Frequently the employee will work alone and occasionally will work irregular or extended hours. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally will work in a loud area. Instructs custodians and maintenance workers on proper methods of procedures and proper use of tools in plumbing repair work as needed. 2. Examines district-owned facilities on a regular basis for purposes of preventive maintenance. 3. Accurately estimates project costs, orders, and accounts for material and labor relative to assignments. 4. Maintains all safety and code requirements of the State, local, and Board of Education guidelines. 5. Performs general maintenance work inside and outside the physical plant such as ceiling, roof, electrical, plumbing, concrete, masonry, glazing, insulation, tile and pump, and fan repairs. 6. Performs district wide grounds maintenance work such as plowing, salting, field marking, and maintenance of underground sprinkling systems. 7. Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase, and maintains the inventory of district-owned hand tools, equipment, hardware, materials, and supplies. 8. May be required to be on 24-hour call. 9. To ensure continuity of services, remote work may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for remote work will be determined by the superintendent of schools. - Maintain physical competence to turn, twist and bend to complete tasks.
- Properly licensed to operate a vehicle.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 60 pounds repeatedly.
- Able to work overhead as well as on a ladder.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Must be team oriented.
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor - Tony Smith
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month employment (250 days) with benefits according to the Classified Agreement.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Must work with the lead plumber to:

Maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times.

Assume responsibility for the safe condition of pipes, drains, and plumbing fixtures in the facilities owned or operated by the district.

Determine which repair jobs may be performed by plumbers, custodians, and maintenance workers on the staff and which must be performed by outside contractors, and advises the Director of Support Services accordingly.

Instruct custodians and maintenance workers on proper methods of procedure and proper use of tools in plumbing repair work.

Recommend supplies and equipment for purchases, and maintains the inventory of district-owned tools equipment, and supplies.

Estimate costs of plumbing repair projects in terms of labor and material.

Examine district owned and operated facilities on a regular basis for purposes of preventive maintenance, and safety.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

Work as needed on snow removal to get a building ready for operation, which may include early morning, late night, weekend, or holiday work.

Work in extreme weather conditions such as winter cold or summer heat as needed. Takes appropriate precautions in such conditions to ensure personal safety such as wearing appropriate clothing and taking water breaks.

Attend meetings or work overtime as requested by supervisors or district administration.

Be respectful and courteous to parents, students and staff.

Dress and grooming should be appropriate. Wear proper uniform and name badge.
