Job Description
Public Information Coordinator
Date: April 27, 2012
Reports to: Superintendent
Supervises: N/A
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field.
Computer skills including Google Docs, Microsoft Office, Internet
and email. Skills include use of websites, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other social media. Training in emerging social media
platforms as needed. Demonstrated effective presentation, collaboration, verbal and written skills are required.
Training or experience in communications with a variety of media preferred.
The Board of Education and Superintendent may approve alternatives to some of the listed qualifications.
Job Goal: Informs the community of school district activities, information, and accomplishments to effectively promote the district.
Employment Terms: 12 Month Contract; 7:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M., exclusive of a lunch
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Evaluation: Annually by Superintendent

Regular Requirements: Sit for extended periods; twist at the neck and
trunk; bend and reach at, below and above shoulder level, repetitive

Occasional Requirements: Ability to administer CPR, Walk, reach
with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder and horizontally;
lift/move up to 25 pounds
Visual Requirements: Close, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus
Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serves as information liaison between school district, news media, and community at large.
- Constructs key messages that meet district objectives and resonate with audiences
- Develops and updates the District’s crisis communication plan
- Develops public relations strategies and actions for effective communications about the district and district initiatives
- Plans and oversees budget for the Public Information Department.
- Takes photographs for press releases, brochures, etc. to promote the district.
- Arranges for all press conferences and prepares information for distribution to reporters covering Board meetings and public hearings.
- Coordinates the planning, production, and distribution of district publications, internal and external. (newsletters, brochures, fliers, etc.)
- Designs, develops, and maintains an extensive website for the Superintendent, administration, Board of Education, news and events, district information, etc.
- Posts all news releases and photographs on district website.
- Develops publications and other ways to positively promote the district.
- Designs and prepares ads presented by the Board.
- Designs presentations for many special projects.
- Publicizes the Teacher of the Year information and events. (photos, Power Point Presentations, news releases, speeches, programs, etc.)
- Plans and oversees Back-to-School Programs. (photos, decorations, Power Point Presentations, news releases, programs, etc.)
- Coordinates the production and distribution of all district news releases.
- Stays abreast of professional practices in the field of public relations through participation in state and national associations.
- To ensure continuity of services, remote work may be necessary in the event of a health crisis or disruptive situation that requires the closing of school and/or office buildings. An employee’s eligibility for remote work will be determined by the superintendent of schools. Expectations and guidelines for remote work will be distributed by the employee’s supervisor, based on his/her role and responsibilities.
